Twitter can be a useful tool in an SEO campaign. Numerous businesses now have representatives updating their Twitter profiles regularly. If used effectively, Twitter can help a company to gain exposure, to communicate with its target audience, to build trust and respect for its brand and to direct traffic to its website.

If you are a business owner using Twitter as part of your SEO campaign it can be an intimidating task. Twitter is still fairly new and those inexperienced in social networking may not know where to begin. What makes using sites like this even harder when using it for the purpose of SEO is the content you create and post is representing your business and so is of great importance.

Finding information to tweet about can be difficult. If Twitter or other social networking websites is going to work effectively for your SEO campaign, it must be continuously updated. This means you have to constantly be finding new and relevant information to discuss in your tweets. Many site owners struggle with this stage of the Twitter process.

However, it is often the case that business owners have information which is relevant and suitable for their tweets but they just don’t know it. They don’t realise their information can be used in this way and so opportunities are missed.

Any information relevant to your business could be of interest to others. If you have done market research before the development of your business and know there is a demand, there will also be an interest. A large number of the Twitter community will likely be interested in your business and therefore in what you have to say when communicating with them in Twitter too.

General industry news can be a great way to get the attention of others and show them what you are about without directly promoting your business. Important and significant pieces of industry news are always acceptable when using Twitter.

News more specific to your company is also perfect for tweets. A new member of staff, a new product, and an achievement such as a record number of sales or record number of visitors in one day can all be used and will be interesting and useful.

Other information which is always welcomed in Twitter is information about sales, discounts or special offers. It is likely a large number of your followers are interested in your profile because of opportunities they may be offered. Don’t feel giving them information like this is pushy or unacceptable as long as the information is genuine. Some of your Twitter followers will expect benefits like this.

Any information which can give others an insight into your business and what you do can be useful. You need to attract attention and develop interest further so always try to keep your information fresh and informative.
