The Tug of War between Budget and Time
December 7th, 2008 by Dan
When a company decides to build a website as a form of Internet marketing, one of the most effective and cheapest ways of marketing is by search engine optimization (SEO).
However, once a SEO campaign begins, it becomes a long-term struggle to raise the page ranking or to maintain a high page ranking. This long and drawn out process can become frustrating for the website owner because of the constant maintenance (by researching keywords and updating) and large sums of money required for its maintenance and updating.
Therefore when one decides to pursue this form of marketing, it is important to have a plan and set goals and budgets so that the construction and development of web presence will grow without wastage.
The Road to SEO Campaign
When it comes to web design, development, maintenance and updating, money will be spent at every stage. A set budget should be set aside to the building process of a website. So then how much should be set aside? This is truly a difficult question because so many factors are involved that budget size varies. Websites are all unique due to the individual website owner’s needs and fund availability.
During the construction, design and website content may vary thus costs will too vary accordingly. Once the initial setup costs are down, the rest would go to the SEO campaign. Of course this can be too vary depending on how much the site owner would like to spend per month. For Meta tag updating, article or blog updating and keyword research prices can vary from the basic £15 to intensive £100’s a month. This in turn means that having the funds immediately available could lead to less stress and a better working relationship with the SEO consultant.
Apart from the website variability’s, different companies too have a variety of prices. If bargain prices are found (as in too cheap), it is likely that these are untrained individuals. Likewise if high prices are found, it is most likely that site development is by a team of experts that would require the pay of professionals.
Watch Out For The Traps And Gold Nuggets When Budgeting For An SEO Campaign
Since the SEO campaign is a long term marketing strategy, one should know that they will be spending money to maintain the traffic in the following years to come. Certain companies or individuals may promise a number 1 rank on Google in a short period of time for a low amount of pay.
Beware that these may be scammers because even if they do achieve what they promise, it is mostly likely that the website will only rank first temporarily or even worse, get banned from Google due to unethical SEO.
Thus when it comes to budgeting for an SEO campaign, one must be both realistic and must conduct research to ensure they have a record for being legit. For those with a large budget, they can employ an agency with sophisticated tools, many copywriters for blogging and other experts to attain SEO.
